A lot of security companies brag about how they protect clients and their property, but do they really? How do they protect your property? What is their policy regarding various types of incidents? What is their policy on the use of force? Have you ever asked to see their use of force policy? Do they have one? You should ask your security provider exactly HOW they are protecting you and your assets. Better yet, for a more honest answer, ask the guard that shows up on your site.

What would your security guard(s) do if they encountered a shoplifter? A fight? What if there was a robbery or burglary? What would your security personnel do if a disgruntled ex-employee came in with a weapon threatening everyone on site…including your customers?

Unfortunately, a lot of companies in the physical security industry are more of a dog-and-pony show rather than actual security. This is a large part of the reason why security professionals are scoffed at.

Are your guards taught how to defend themselves? Are your guards taught how do de-escalate situations or resolve conflicts? Do you know anything about the training your guards receive? Will your security provider let you sit in on a training session and see firsthand how their guards are trained?

We’re not going to say that we’re the only company that truly protects people. That just simply wouldn’t be true. Not all security companies are for show. They are not all pretending to protect you. There are many companies out there with your safety and interests in mind. You just need to make sure that protection is what you are actually getting.
