Remembering & Honoring Those Who Paid
the Ultimate Price for Our Way of Life
Memorial Day is not a day for retail sales. It’s not a day for barbeques. It’s not a day for celebration and happiness. It’s a day for solemn remembrance of those who gave their lives to ensure our Republic would continue. That doesn’t mean you can’t go and shop for bargains. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a cookout. That doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the lives of those men and women who sacrificed it all that we could be a free nation or be happy in the fact that we’re not under tyranny. You can do all those things. However, take some time out to study our history. Look at the struggle for our independence from the then oppressive British monarchy. Reflect on the genius of our forefathers to develop our founding documents using history to predict the future and writing those documents in a way that is as close to perfect as humans can get.
Have your sales, your barbeques, and your celebrations, but please keep in mind what this holiday is really all about. There is so much divisiveness in America today, but we can generally all agree that this country is unique and that we are far better off here than in many other places in the world.
Each year, on Memorial Day, there is a National Moment of Remembrance at 1500hrs (3pm) in your local time. Please take time out to remember. Thank you.
